CLOTHES AND MAINTENANCE
Do you want to make your clothes last longer? Make sure you turn them inside out and air them before you wash them. Sweat can make your clothes moldy, and stain and damage them!
To clean sweaty clothes rub a mixture of vinegar or lemon juice dissolved in water on them.
WAX AND CHEWING GUM
Do not try to remove wax or chewing gum from your clothes immediately. Put your clothes in a nylon bag. Put the bag in the freezer and leave it there for at least an hour. The wax or the gum will harden so much that it will come off very easily.
SODA AND VINEGAR
To soften your clothes, use half a cup of soda when washing them. When rinsing, use half a cup of vinegar.
BLACK COTTON CLOTHES
If the black color of your cotton clothes (blouses, trousers, skirts) has faded, add 2 cups of ready strong black coffee to the washing machine at the rinsing stage.
If you have towels with vivid colors and want to keep them beautiful, add one cup of salt in the water during the first wash. Salt stabilizes colors and helps them remain vivid for much longer!
CLEAN BATHROOM TOWELS
To keep your bathroom and face towels as absorbent as possible, make sure that they are well rinsed. A cup of white vinegar removes all traces of soap.
MOTHS AND CLOVES
Naphthalene is a carcinogenic substance. Avoid using it. Place that wonderful spice, cloves between your clothes; its effective, safe and fragrant.
Never let silk fabrics dry in the sun.
For wool fabrics to regain their form, let them absorb the humidity of your bathroom but keep them away from radiators, heaters, etc.
FABRICS AND RUST
Keep acrylic, polyester and rayon fabrics away from rust. Soak white cotton fabrics in a bleach solution for 10 minutes. Wash white and colored clothes at the highest permitted temperature.
CLOTHES ON THE HANGER
To avoid hanger marks on the shoulders of your clothes, use old pads when hanging them.
Hang wrinkled clothes in the bathroom. The steam will straighten them out.
CLOTHES IN SUITCASES
To prevent clothes from wrinkling in your suitcase, place rice paper inside the sleeves and the shoulders of jackets and inside dresses, and roll up skirts.
Do your suitcases smell musty? A few days before use, place 2-3 sugar cubes inside each one and close them. The sugar will absorb the moisture and the unpleasant smell will disappear.
Before putting them in the washing machine, rub the collars and the cuffs with a brush dipped in liquid detergent.
WASHING TIPS #1
More detergent will not clean your clothes better. On the contrary, the fibers will retain soap and you will not be able to rinse the clothes well.
WASHING TIPS #2
Do not overfill the washing machine just to get the washing over with. If there is no room for the clothes to move, they will not be properly washed. Empty pockets, undo buttons and close zippers. Turn cotton clothes inside out. This reduces wear.
